Xwulqw'selu Water Sustainability Planning

The key goal and vision for this project is for Cowichan Tribes, in partnership with the Province, to develop B.C.’s first Water Sustainability Plan (WSP) for the Xwulqw’selu watershed. The WSP will be grounded in Quw’utsun jurisdiction, laws, and priorities to ensure a healthier watershed for generationsto come. The work is an expression of Cowichan Tribes’ inherent authority, jurisdiction, and original and ongoing stewardship of the territory. The Plan takes a whole-of-watershed approach and is guided by Cowichan Tribes principles—including Nutsamat kws yaay’us tth qa’ (we come together as a whole to work together to be strongeras partners for the watershed)—to address the pressing issues facing the watershed related to water availability, low flows, critical fish habitat, and Indigenous cultural resources.
