Rebuilding Indigenous Water Governance Capacity in the Liard Basin
The goal of this project is to establish and lead an Indigenous Governance working group to help rebuild local capacity to engage in watershed stewardship and planning in the Liard watershed. This work is guided by Dene and Cree elders and knowledge holders, and involves the transmission of Dene / Cree laws, language, traditions stories, ceremonies and more, that have guided the community in their ways of life and decision-making since time immemorial. This knowledge will in turn be applied to land and water planning processes, legal decision-making, and overall resource governance, through a variety of pathways.
